What is a Discovery Flight? Your First Step Toward Becoming a Pilot

What Happens During a Discovery Flight?

1. Meet Your Instructor

You’ll be introduced to one of our Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs). They’ll explain what you’ll be doing and answer any questions you have.

2. Preflight Walkaround

Together, you’ll do a simple inspection of the aircraft. This hands-on step shows you how pilots check their airplanes before every flight.

3. Get Settled in the Cockpit

Your instructor will show you the controls and instruments. Don’t worry—everything is explained in plain English, and you’ll only take on what you’re comfortable with.

4. Takeoff & Flying

The instructor will handle the takeoff, but once in the air, you’ll get the chance to fly the airplane! You’ll practice basic maneuvers like gentle turns, climbs, and descents.

5. Enjoy the View

Discovery Flights aren’t just about learning—they’re about experiencing the joy of flight. From the air, you’ll see East Idaho’s stunning landscapes from a whole new perspective.

6. Return & Debrief

After landing, your instructor will answer your questions and talk about how flight training works if you decide to continue.
